Pianist, composer and arranger Larry Ham has long been a noted New York jazz musician: performing, touring, and recording with many of today’s jazz greats. More recently, he is gaining recognition as an emerging artist, with the recent release of his debut CD “Carousel” featuring his own compositions and unique arrangements, and a solo piano CD “Just Me, Just You…” recorded for Arbors Jazz.
Larry’s professional career began in the late ’80’s with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra. He was pianist in the Illinois Jacquet Big Band 1990-95, and has worked extensively with countless other jazz legends including Junior Cook and Dakota Staton. He has performed at jazz festivals, concerts, and nightclubs throughout the United States, Europe, West Africa, Canada, India, and Japan.
He has appeared twice on NBC’s “The Today Show” and has been featured on the NPR programs “Jazz Set with Dee Dee Bridgewater,” and on Judy Carmichael’s “Jazz Inspired.” He performed at the White House for President Reagan, and for President Clinton’s Inaugural Ball. Larry also represented the U.S. as a US State Dept. Jazz Ambassador to West Africa in 2001/2002.
Larry received a BA in Musical Studies from the Crane School of Music At SUNY Potsdam, and an MA in Jazz Performance from Queens College in New York City.
