Broadside Composite relief printing, on letterpress

This will be a six week class meeting Tuesday nights April 25 through May 30, 2017.

An introduction to composite printing focused on creating one broadside edition from three printing plates that cover the basic forms of relief print plate making.  A broadside incorporates both image and text.

The following basic forms of relief will be covered: carving small wood and linoleum blocks; identifying and printing with found objects; pre-made forms and a photomechanical plate.  Students will be asked to incorporate words with images completing the broadside. The Vandercook self-inking letterpress (a machine designed to print newspaper volume editions) will be used throughout the six week session.

Each student will complete an edition of ten prints one in which will be framed! In addition one print from each participant will be shared, creating a class portfolio. This is creative learning experience, not to be missed! Class size is limited so make sure to reserve your spot!

From 2009 to 2013, Johnny LaFalce was an adjunct faculty member of North Country Community College where he taught Drawing, Painting & Printmaking courses. He was the Studio Technician for BluSeed Studios as well as the head of the BluSeed Paper Mill. LaFalce received his BFA in Painting in 2002 from Buffalo State College.

From 2007 to the present, he has been an active collaborator and facilitator of both the Combat Paper Project and Peace Paper Project, as well as with the Green Door Studio and others in the paper community.
His work has been shown throughout the United States, Mexico, Australia and the United Kingdom, and featured in numerous special and private collections. His work straddles community based public works such as the Paper Projects, Deep Fried Books, Life Left Forgotten and his studio work, which addresses societal behaviors of consumption and sovereignty through mythic multimedia anthropomorphic creations.
