EXPLOSION OF ART IN SARANAC LAKE
August 15 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
SARANAC LAKE, NEW YORK—Third Thursday ArtWalks continue in Saranac Lake on Thursday, August 15 from 5PM to 7:30PM with even more arts and entertainment for the whole family.
August 15 is Day 4 of the Adirondack Plein Air Festival which accepted 50 artists from all over the country for a week of outdoor painting in the greater Saranac Lake Region. Those artists will also be out and about during the August Third Thursday ArtWalk, so there’s even more to do and especially see on this busy Third Thursday of the month in the village of Saranac Lake.
With more than 60 participating artists and businesses, there was already plenty to see and experience. Third Thursday Art Walks run from 5pm-7:30pm along Main St., Broadway, Woodruff St., Bloomingdale Ave, Church St., and Cedar St. in Saranac Lake. More than 30 artists are paired with sponsoring businesses and organizations, demonstrating that the area is a great arts community as well as a fun place to shop. These artists encompass every medium imaginable from musicians and writers to jewelry makers, painters, woodcarvers, glassblowers, craftspeople, and more. There is something for every age and every taste.
The BackSliders, an American Country music duo, will set up on the Berkeley Green on this ArtWalk evening…while the Hotel Saranac will have Lynn Waickman playing recorder and James Colman on ukulele and vocals in the Great Hall upstairs inside the hotel. Performance artist Glenn Burnett will be inside Nori’s and a special preview play-reading will be happening inside Left Bank Café.
Other performers are Marissa and Jeff Dupra showcasing modern dance and storytelling outside St. Regis Outfitters; the Jubal Consort (recorder quartet) outside at the Adirondack Carousel and Rocky N Lil at Riverside Park; Ginny West will be inside the Cape Air office playing hammered dulcimer. There is an outdoor Open Mic at The Rusty Nail; Mark Paul will be wood carving at Blue Moon Restaurant and Rachel Lamb will be carving at Sylvia’s. Several writers will be out and about including George Bryzak, Yvona Fast and Caperton Tissot, in addition to a book signing by Sam Dean at The Village Mercantile. There are jewelry makers, visual artists, card readers, a glassblower, and more fun to be found lining the streets of Saranac Lake on August 15. Art galleries are open late and BluSeed Studios will be having their opening reception for Lake Placid artist Cree Scudder.
The ArtWalks go on whatever the weather as most of the participating businesses will invite artists and performers inside should the weather prove a challenge.
The final 2019 ArtWalk of the season will be on September 19th. The mission of the Art Walks is to stimulate business, draw attention to downtown Saranac Lake and to encourage community spirit through the presentation of visual, performing, and literary arts by artists who live and work in the North Country.
