This is a crash course in book-making, with 1-on-1 instruction designed to be flexible to each student’s individual area of interest and level of skill. Beginners welcome! Students will learn the basics of letterpressing, layout, and hand-sewing, with the end result of the class being a small edition of their work, hand-bound.
Session 1: July 7-11, 10am – 4pm
Session 2: July 14-18, 10am – 4pm
The class will be taught by Ben Aleshire during his residency at BluSeed Studios. Ben founded Honeybee Press in 2010, which publishes “The Salon,” in addition to full length books of poetry, using handmade paper, letterpress, and hand-binding techniques to empower authors through the book arts. His poetry has appeared in Green Mountains Review, Barrow Street, Seven Days, and many others. His first book, Dropped Apples, was funded though a grant from the VT Arts Council, and was released in 2012 during a residency at the BCA Center. His latest book, Currency, was commissioned by strangers in the street and composed spontaneously on a typewriter.
