Pottery/Ceramics Studio...

Blueed's pottery studio is a 1,000-square-foot space housing 7 electric wheels, 2 kilns, a slab roller, and glaze area. Courses (2 Bluseedlings children's levels, plus beginner and intermediate adult levels) are offered from September through June, taught by well-known local artists. Classes are growing every session, so please register early if you would like to participate.

Private studio space is available on a monthly rental basis.



Bluseed Studios Spring 2008 Ceramic Courses

Class size is limited to 7 students to ensure individualized attention and mentoring.

Fee: $250 per session; includes instruction and all materials (50 lbs. clay, glazes, firings, and open studio access for length of class.


Level 1 - Beginner Wheel Throwing:

This class will introduce you to working on the wheel.

  • Learn basic wheel throwing skills including centering and forming basic shapes such as mugs, bowls, plates, candlesticks, and lidded pots.
  • Learn basic glazing techniques. You will end the semester with finished clay work.
Instructor: Mary Lou Reid - Local potter
Tile-maker, respected artist, and experienced teacher with over 30 years' experience in working in clay. Mary Lou co-founded Kate Mountain Pottery and was the resident potter at Chickadees (formerly on Main Street in Saranac Lake). Her work has been shown in numerous juried shows and recently her handmade tiles were featured in Adirondack Life magazine.

8 - week class
Wednesdays, 6 - 9pm (Current Session starts April 30, 2008)


Level 2 - Intermediate Wheel Throwing:

Develop and build on your skills and knowledge of throwing and further your technical understanding of clay. (Ability to center and throw required)

  • Refine your throwing skills.
  • Learn advanced decorative and glazing techniques, make original glazes) will be demonstrated and discussed.
  • Review and critique fired results to help develop your personal style.
Instructor: Peter Shrope - Potter
Sculptor and juried member of the Adirondack Artists Guild who has worked in the ceramic medium for over 35 years. Peterís ceramic and multimedia work has been shown in many exhibitions, some on display in the permanent collection of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
