In Duality: Hard/Soft, artists Bray and Downs present work that explores the complex relationship between hard and soft. Through different mediums, subject matter, use of color, etc, both artists offer a variety of interpretations and extrapolations on the prompt.
Though they are typically depicted as opposites within a binary, hard and soft do not exist in a concrete relationship of “only one or the other”. Just as the constructed binaries projected onto gender and sexuality do not encompass our true, expansive human expression, the connotations and implications of hard and soft are not a completely accurate representation of the concepts as a whole.
